Love of Leaves - My entry to the GDP #255 Challenge

"Hope Changes Everything" - what a lovely sentiment for our current times.  Today's card is a cheery one, designed to put a smile on the face of the recipient.

This card is my answer to the Global Design Project #255.  The theme this week is Trees and Leaves, but I will let you into a little secret.....ssshhhh!!!....don't tell anyone, but this design was actually my answer to the colour challenge #253 using GRANNY APPLE GREEN, CALYPSO CORAL and BUMBLEBEE.
Click on the image above if you would like to head over to the Global Design Project website, where you will find the design team's inspiration and other entries.

Life got a little busy; family jobs and getting ready to go away for a week got on top of me and I missed the deadline.  I went away having achieved as much as I could, but perhaps not everything on my list.  I have learnt, and I am still learning, to let go and just take those breaks when I need them.  My family needed me too, so I downed tools and went on a lovely week away in the Lake District and forgot all about deadlines and commitments for a short time.

Now, having returned refreshed and ready, I am back at my desk and ready to create, blog and plan again.  I took a peek at the GDP Challenge this week and to my delight the theme perfectly chimed in with the card I made two weeks back, but had not managed to enter.  I am pleased as punch to be able to enter this week and show you all my card, which I really enjoyed making.

Here I have used the LOVE OF LEAVES BUNDLE, which includes a Photopolymer stamp set of leaf images and sentiments, and a set of dies for use with the STAMPIN' CUT & EMBOSS (have you got your order ready for 1st September?)

The card base is a standard half sheet of A4 scored at the 10.5cm mark and then I trimmed a 4cm piece off of the right side of the card front.  I glued a piece of DSP from the PLAYING WITH PATTERNS DSP, which happens to feature BUMBLEBEE, to the inside of the card.  This is now revealed by the 4cm cut out and when you open the card fully.
This card sketch was inspired by a swap I received from my fellow team mate Sarah Skellon - she is on Instagram @sarahstampinup, and here is her original card.
Using the dies, I cut the two largest leaves out in CALYPSO CORAL and GRANNY APPLE GREEN.  I love the stitch detail on the coloured card stock here.  I stamped the sentiment in VERSAMARK INK and heat embossed in WHITE EMBOSSING POWDER onto BUMBLEBEE card stock.  I cut this to a narrow strip and adhered it along with the two leaves to the card front, overlapping the front edge.

Inside I added that spare strip of Whisper White card stock as an area to write on.  It is smaller than the normal size I would provide but I think it works for short and sweet card giving.
The finishing touch comes from the IN GOOD TASTE ELEMENTS crosses dotted around the leaves.
